Spring is just around the corner, and it is time for everyone to get excited for this year's musical theatre presentation. For the 2010 production, Wellsville High School is proud to present the hilarious musical, Once Upon a Mattress. This entertaining show is based on the tale of "The Princess and the Pea." If you thought you knew the story, you may be in for a surprise! Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winnifred (played by sophomore Brittany Horan) actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab (freshman Blake Beckemeyer)? Or that Queen Aggravain (freshman Alyssa Staba) had everyone in the kingdom except the mute King (senior Brannan Geshwind) wrapped around her little finger? Or that, in fact, it wasn't the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night?
Carried on a wave of wonderful songs -- sometimes raucous, sometimes romantic, and always melodic -- this fun-filled spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for a side-splitting good time. Chances are you'll never look at fairy tales quite the same way again.
Our show is set to hit the stage in the Wellsville High School Auditorium on Friday, March 26th, and Saturday, March 27th, at 7:30 p.m. and again on Sunday, March 28th, at 2 p.m.
Tickets may be purchased at the door or you may buy them in advance at Brand Name Appliance, Ink, and the Wellsville High School Main Office. The cost is $6 for students and senior citizens and $7 for general admission.
If you want to be entertained, mark your calendar now and plan to come to a performance that is sure to tickle your funny bone. You won't be disappointed.

 |
It is that time of the year when we begin to plan for the next school year. To help us in our planning we will be conducting our annual Pre-kindergarten/Kindergarten registration at the Elementary School. To be eligible to attend our grant funded Universal Pre-kindergarten program in September 2010, a child must have been born between December 2, 2005 and December 1, 2006. To be eligible to attend our Kindergarten in September 2010, a child must have been born between December 2, 2004 and December 1, 2005. It is very important that you register your child for these classes.
Please fill out a "Registration Form" which appears in our Document Manager on this web site. There is a registration form for Pre-Kindergarten and one for Kindergarten. If you would like the school to mail one home to you, please call 596-2105 or 596-2107, or you may stop by and pick one up.
On the day of registration please bring the following documents with you: • The Registration Form • Your child's birth certificate • Your child's immunization record • Documentation of any allergies or health conditions • Documentation of custodial rights
Registration dates are: Thursday, March 18, 2010 from 9:30 to 11:30 and 12:30 to 2:30 Friday, March 19, 2010 from 9:30 to 11:30 and 12:30 to 2:30
Registration forms that are completed beforehand shorten registration time. At registration, someone will meet with you to review all of the documents that you have brought. You do not need to bring your child to register him or her.
In June there will be a parent meeting to review the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Screening process. Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Screening will take place during the week of July 19th. For more information call Dawn Haskins at 596-2105 or Dawn Reagan at 596-2107. |

SECTION V CHAMPIONS

Story by John Anderson of the
Wellsville Daily Reporter
Joe Moretti had to wait. Every year, no matter what the sport, there was always someone else, someone bigger, stronger, flashier. Quietly, he waited. He waited on the bench in soccer. He waited on the bench in basketball. What no one saw was the work he was putting in after the games were over. Moretti attended camps and clinics. He practiced at home and worked out with weights. The result? He sat on the bench some more. However, Moretti started to turn some heads and by this season, he was a bona fide star. After averaging 3.7 points a game as a junior in basketball, he was scoring in double-digits night-in and night-out. Sectionals were coming. The No. 1 seed Wellsville Lions would be honored at the annual Section V dinner in Rochester. On Thursday, Feb. 18, Moretti's dreams crashed down. Forget sports, he wondered if he would live to see another day. With IV's pumping in him, Moretti was being rushed by volunteers on a Wellsville ambulance to Children's Hospital in Buffalo. A kid who had room to lose about three pounds off his already thin frame had dropped 19 pounds in two weeks.

Joe Morretti and the #1 Wellsville Lions will take on #8 Marcus Whitman on Saturday at the Wellsville High School at 5:00 PM. The #3 Wellsville Lady Lions will take on #6 Bishop Kearney at 3:00 PM in the Wellsville gymnasium.
