On January 7, 2010, the Wellsville Middle School held its annual Geography Bee, sponsored by the National Geographic Society. Students were asked questions and the top nine were chosen to represent the school. Participants included from eighth grade, Kirby Weinhauer; from seventh grade, Colten Beardsley, Liam Cunningham, Jordan Perham, Riley Cole, and Killian Groom; and from sixth grade, Grace Erway, Bryce Davis, and Meghan O'Kelly. First place honors went to Riley Cole and second place was awarded to Meghan O'Kelly. Riley will next take a written test to see if he qualifies for the state competition held in Albany, on April 9, 2010. The event was coordinated by Amy Hunt. Tom Reuning hosted the event. Judges included Terry Loucks, Katie LaPoint, and Lavant Barney. Mary Ellen O'Connell was the time keeper and Kathy Breuer televised the competition for the entire school to view.
