In the last days prior to winter break, fifth grade classes got a chance to examine actual organs from a pig as part of the culminating lab following their unit on the human body. Students read clues posted by each organ, and identified its name and the system it belonged too. This was the first time most of the students had ever handled internal organs. The hands-on experience brings the information beyond mere textbook learning. Of course, there is a slight "gross" factor, which also helps the information stay stuck in their memories! Shown AT FRONT IN PHOTO are: (L-R) Sierra, Liam, and Matt. |

Each month our Wellsville Elementary Substitutes nominate the one student in their class who was the most helpful in the classroom. At the end of the month two of the nominations are drawn at ramdom to be honored as the Student Helpers of the Month. These two students each received a coupon for a free sub from our local Subway. The winners for the month of January were Zeruviah and Sierra. |

Dr. Stephan Schutz wanted to make sure that children have a resource that can help them with their reading. He turned to the Internet and conceived a program that would be available on-line across the world for free to all children who are learning to read. Click on the logo below to access this free site!
